1 March 2027: Shopify stops injecting script tags into storefronts
This time what still runs goes down. Every script still loaded this way disappears from the store, across all pages, not just at checkout. It is the end of a mechanism that carried online retail measurement for a decade.
What exactly changes
Shopify states that from 1 March 2027 the platform will stop injecting script tags into storefronts. The script may still be declared somewhere, but it will no longer be placed in the page, so it will no longer run.
The difference with August 2026 is scope. That cut only hit the order status page. This one hits the whole online store: home page, product pages, cart, collections.
What goes down that day
Measurement scripts placed by an app across the site, not only at purchase: page views, add to cart, checkout started. A store that migrated its purchase tracking in August and left the rest on script tags will lose the upper half of its funnel.
Interface tools that loaded this way: banners, discount pop-ups, review widgets, chat buttons, A/B tests.
Cookie consent scripts placed by an app. On that one, the disappearance does not merely break measurement, it can put you at odds with your own obligations.
How to handle it without breaking everything
Start with the inventory, before October 2026, while edits are still possible. The question for each tool is simple: how does it reach the page, and has its publisher shipped an app embed block or web pixel version?
Migrate by family rather than app by app. Measurement goes to Customer events, interface to theme app embed blocks, checkout to checkout extensions. Once the family is understood, the tools follow.
Verify every replacement in real conditions: fire a real action and watch the event land in the destination account. A declared pixel is not a firing pixel.
Why deal with it now
Because the repair window closes on 1 October 2026, five months before the cut. After that date there is no creating or editing a script tag to buy yourself time.
And because a store that already lost its purchase measurement in August 2026 is stacking up months of distorted ad learning. Every week spent on data with holes in it costs real money in misdirected budget, long before March arrives.
