Field report

Your Shopify tracking stopped and nobody told you.

Run the free diagnostic

On 26 August 2026 Shopify switched off script tags on the order status page of every non-Plus store, after doing the same to Plus stores a year earlier. Eight days earlier Google shut down the Content API for Shopping. Neither one shows an error. Your pixels simply went quiet, your feed started drifting, and the first thing you will notice is a drop in October, six weeks before your best month of the year.

02

The two dates

18 Aug 2026

Google shut down the Content API for Shopping. Progressive errors since 1 September. Feed apps that never migrated to the Merchant API are failing quietly.

26 Aug 2026

Shopify ended script tags on the order status page for non-Plus stores. Every tracking app that installed itself that way went silent, with no error and no notice.

03

Why this is worse than it sounds

It fails silently

No error page, no email, no red banner in the admin. The store keeps selling normally. Only the measurement dies.

Your ads follow the bad numbers

Meta and Google bid on what they can see. When conversions stop arriving, the algorithms spend your budget on the wrong people, and the damage compounds daily.

The timing is the worst part

It broke at the end of August. Peak season starts in November. You have a few weeks to restore the signal before the algorithms learn the year's most expensive traffic on incomplete data.

04

Free diagnostic

Your store address

The address of the store to check. It is public, it is what your customers type, and without it there is nothing to look at.

Answer five questions

These five answers are enough to establish the diagnostic. Four you already know. The fifth takes thirty seconds and is the one that settles it: open your pixel list and see what is left.

For question five, the list is here:

  1. 1Shopify admin
  2. 2Settings
  3. 3Customer events

This store is on a Shopify Plus plan

You still use checkout.liquid for the thank-you page

You send your catalogue to Google Merchant Center

Sales or conversions dropped since late August

At least one Google or Meta pixel is listed under Customer events

Optional: paste your old scripts

Shopify removed the Additional scripts box from the admin. Verified on 14 September 2026 on two non-Plus stores: Settings, Checkout no longer holds that field, and the scripts it carried are unrecoverable from the admin.

So this step only concerns you if a copy survived somewhere: a theme backup, a git repository, an old handover note. Paste it and the analysis names each broken script one by one. If you have nothing, skip it, the five answers are enough.

Pasted code is never uploaded and never stored: this part runs entirely in your browser. Only the store address reaches the server, to read that store's public pages.

06

How the repair runs

Four steps, a fixed price agreed before anything starts, and a written proof at the end. You keep working while it happens: nothing on the storefront is touched during business hours without your go-ahead.

01

Survey

Your store is inspected against the register below. You receive the confirmed scope, the hours and a fixed price. Nothing starts before you accept it.

02

Rebuild

Tracking is put back on the official mechanisms, one item at a time, on a copy of the theme. Your live store keeps selling untouched.

03

Proof

Each conversion is triggered and observed arriving in the destination account. Meta, Google, whatever else you run. Screens are captured as they happen.

04

Handover

You receive a before and after report, the list of what was replaced, and what to watch on the next platform deadline. Balance due at this point, not before.

What is checked

Every diagnostic runs your scripts against this list. It is the same list on a 300 order store and on a 30 000 order store.

16 script families

treated as critical

  • No purchase pixel left
  • Thank-you page still on checkout.liquid
  • Meta pixel
  • Google Ads conversion
  • Google Tag Manager
  • Google Analytics
  • TikTok pixel
  • Pinterest tag
  • Snapchat pixel
  • Klaviyo tracking
  • Post-purchase SMS capture
  • Post-purchase upsell
  • Custom code reading the order

treated as secondary

  • Session recording
  • Review request
  • Loyalty programme

The list grows with the register: when a platform announces a new cut, the check is added here before the date arrives.

Get it fixed

The diagnostic is free and the report is yours. Getting it fixed is the paid part, and it starts with a written quote, not with a payment.

Audit

Paste your scripts above and get the full list of what stopped working, what each one costs you, and how many hours the repair represents. No account, no email required.

Free

Repair

Your tracking rebuilt, every conversion verified firing again, and a before and after report you can show your client. Half on order, half once the proof is in front of you. Typical delivery: five working days.

Agencies

You manage a portfolio of Shopify stores and every one of them was cut on the same day. One audit pass across the whole portfolio, a single prioritised schedule, degressive pricing from the fifth store, and a report per client you can forward under your own name.

On quote, from 5 stores

Payments are in test mode while the site is being finished. No card is charged.

Start with the free diagnostic

The quote comes from the diagnostic: it tells me what is broken on your store before I price anything. Free, written, no obligation, answer within one business day.

08

Questions

Is my code safe to paste here?

The code you paste is read entirely in your browser: it is never uploaded and never stored. The store address is different, it goes to the server so the site can read that store’s public pages, the same pages your customers see. Nothing else is sent, and no diagnostic is kept unless you open an account and ask for a quote.

I am on Shopify Plus, does this affect me?

Your cut happened earlier, on 28 August 2025. If nobody migrated your scripts at that point, you have been losing post-purchase data for over a year.

Can I just put the scripts back?

No. The field still exists in some themes but the code no longer executes on those pages. Tracking has to be republished as customer events, and interface elements as checkout extensions.

How do I know any of this is accurate?

Every date on this page links to the publisher's own documentation. The register in section 05 lists twenty-six dated changes, each with its source. Check before you believe us.
